Alberobello Tour: what to see in one day

The beauty of Alberobello lies in wandering among the trulli and visiting museums, such as the Trullo Sovrano.
Many trulli are used as shops or are open to the public, making it easy to peek inside and get an idea of their interior.
The Basilica of Saints Cosmas and Damian is a must-see on your Alberobello tour. Crossing Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, you reach Largo Martellotta, a wide street that borders the so-called Rione Monti: Alberobello's most characteristic district with the highest concentration of trulli. The Rione is named this way because each street in the district is named after one of the mountains where battles were fought during World War I.
A short distance from Rione Monti is Rione Aia Piccola: a smaller district, entirely made up of trulli, where you can still experience the slow and tranquil life of times past.
Once you reach Piazza 27 Maggio, you can visit the Museo del Territorio, where you can discover the history and transformation of the Murgia landscape. The district takes its name from this square, where an threshing floor (aia) for collecting tithes for the feudal lord was once located.
What to see in Alberobello and its surroundings
Once you've finished touring the town, you can continue exploring the trulli scattered across the countryside. You could rent a bicycle, for example, which will allow you to easily reach anywhere you want and visit places far from the center.
You can explore Alberobello's rural territory, once vibrant and now rich in traces of peasant civilization. Here you'll find ancient and original architectural elements of the trulli: platform fireplaces, alcoves, recessed elevated beds, and solid double-leaf wooden doors. These details, remnants of a fascinating past, will add a romantic touch to your stroll.
Heading south, you'll reach the natural oasis of Bosco Selva, the city's green lung. This city park, spanning approximately 40 hectares, features a small playground for children, benches and picnic tables, and equipped paths for outdoor walks. Bosco Selva is one of Alberobello's two sites of community importance, hosting numerous protected plant species. It's the ideal place to spend a peaceful and tranquil afternoon.
What to see in Alberobello before leaving?

What should you absolutely see before leaving Alberobello?
Climb the steep steps leading from Largo Matteotti up to the Church of Santa Lucia: you are entering the Rione Aia Piccola! Right next to the Church of Santa Lucia, you'll find the famous and eponymous Terrazza Santa Lucia, one of the most beautiful panoramic viewpoints over Rione Monti.
But Alberobello is not just trulli!
Tradition and the true essence of the south are encapsulated in a unique place, isolated from time, where you can disconnect from the frenzy of the city.
The rural and peasant tradition can also be savored through gastronomy and local cuisine. You can taste specialties such as extra virgin olive oil, wine, taralli, cruschi peppers, orecchiette, panzerotti, and typical sweets. These authentic flavors represent just some of the delicacies of this fantastic territory.
So, if you're tired of walking, want to take a break, and experience a journey through the scents and colors of this land before leaving, we recommend one of our food and wine experiences, discovering Alberobello's oldest wineries.
